Yellow Ceramic Mortars and Pestle
This hand-painted ceramic mortar and wooden pestle is a fixture in many homes throughout Spain. We use it to make alioli (garlic mayonnaise) for our seafood paellas. We also crush saffron threads in the mortar and then pour in hot broth to let the saffron steep. The glazed ceramic finish cleans up easily and will not stain. When it's not in use, we keep it on display on an open shelf in our kitchen.
The mortar comes in two sizes. The large size has a 3 cup capacity and is 4 inches tall and 9 inches wide across the top at its widest point. The small size has a 1 cup capacity and is 3 inches tall and 6 1/2 inches wide across the top.
